Helen Simonson, Brooklyn Heights resident and author of the New York Times bestselling debut novel “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand,” will be reading from her eagerly awaited second novel “The Summer Before the War” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22 at BookCourt, 163 Court St. in Cobble Hill.

“At once haunting and effervescent, ‘The Summer Before the War’ demonstrates the sure hand of a master,” writes Annie Barrows, author of “The Truth According to Us.”

“Simonson is like a Jane Austen for our day and age — she is that good — and ‘The Summer Before the War’ is nothing short of a treasure,” says Paula McLain, author of “The Paris Wife” and “Circling the Sun.”the-summer-before-the-war
