With the holiday season in full swing and a new year upon us, New York’s Young & Powerful Group will introduce their newest initiative, the Pipeline Mentoring Project, at a Holiday Mixer and Book Drive.

Held on Tuesday, Dec.17 at Buskers NYC (92 W. Houston St.) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., this holiday mixer will provide young civic-minded professionals with the opportunity to mingle and spread holiday cheer while providing the gift of literacy. Admission to the event is free, but guests are encouraged to bring a new book suitable for grades K-3. All books collected will be donated to the Hyde Leadership Charter School in Brooklyn, a school dedicated to providing children from low-income households with a quality education. Book donations, in addition to being accepted at the holiday event, can be purchased online where all items will be shipped directly to Hyde Leadership Charter School (to donate online, visit http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1MPY6RJCAZBMS/ref=cm_wl_sortbar_v_page_2?ie=UTF8&page=2).

In addition to providing the gift of literacy to students, the mixer will serve as a debut for the Pipeline Mentoring Project. Scheduled to launch in January 2014, the Pipeline Mentoring Project, in partnership with other mentoring organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC, is a program that aims to combat the school-to-prison pipeline phenomenon by exposing students to a wide array of young and successful professionals in order to broaden their perspectives on potential career options. Currently recruiting mentors, the program promises to offer New York City youth (ages 7-18) the opportunity to connect with both young professionals and current college students to gain inspiration about overcoming obstacles.

All guests who are interested in attending this holiday soirée can RSVP at NYCholidaymixer.eventbrite.com.
