Listen up, poetry lovers: BookCourt hosts five of 2012’s Best New Poets

According to Brooklyn Eagle, tonight BookCourt will be hosting five of 2012’s Best New Poets. Best New Poets, established seven years ago, serves to represent fifty rising poets each year. Many of the featured writers and poems have been nominated by writing programs and literary magazines, while others have been chosen from the thousands of pieces submitted to an online competition. Wednesday’s event will feature Harry Bauld, who won the 2008 New Millennium Writings poetry prize; Lexa Hillyer, whose book “Acquainted With the Cold” won the 2011 Melissa Lanitis Gregory Poetry Prize; Brooklyn poet Victoria Lynne McCoy, who was the 2011 and 2012 Work Fellow for the Frost Place Festival and Conference on Poetry; Daniel Meltz, whose work has been published in American Poetry Review, Columbia Review, and Lana Turner, among other publications; and Brooklyn poet Martin Rock, author of the chapbooks “Fish, You Bird” (Pilot, 2010) and “Dear Mark” (Brooklyn Arts Press, 2012).

The poets appearing at BookCourt will read from their work, after which they will stick around for an audience Q&A, signing, and mingling.

The event will begin at 7pm. BookCourt is located at 163 Court Street in Cobble Hill.
