powerHouse hosts Young Adults Author Panel

Head to powerHouse tonight, January 15, for a chance to meet some of the most esteemed Young Adult authors. Brooklynite Matt de la Pena (“I Will Save You”), Deborah Heiligman (“Intentions”), and Theo Lawrence (“Mystic City”) will read from their work and will participate in a discussion moderated by One Teen Story editor Pei-Ling Lue.

Brooklynite Matt de la Pena’s debut novel “Ball Don’t Lie” will soon be released as a motion picture starring Ludacris. The book was an ALA-YALSA Best Book for Young Adults and an ALA-YALSA Quick Pick. He is the author of two other acclaimed novels, and his short fiction has appeared in numerous literary journals, including Pacific Review, The Vincent Brothers Review, and Two Girl’s Review.  de la Pena holds an MFA in creative writing from San Diego State University and a BA from the University of the Pacific. He currently teaches creative writing in Brooklyn.

Deborah Heiligman has written nearly 30 books for children and teens. Her book “Charles and Emma: The Darwins’ Leap of Faith” was a National Book Award Finalist, A Printz Honor, the YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction winner, and a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize. “Intentions,” her forthcoming book, humorously explores the complex transition from childhood to adulthood.

Theo Lawrence is both a writer and a performer; he holds degrees from Columbia and the Juilliard School and has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Off-Broadway.

The event will begin at 6pm. powerHouse is located at 37 Main Street in DUMBO.
