Tonight at Brooklyn’s bookstores

Trauma, Truths, and Twitter

Authors Rory O’Connor and Dr. Rahimeh Andalibian will appear tonight, Jan. 24, at DUMBO’s powerHouse bookstore, to discuss how social media has served to perpetuate common misconceptions about the Middle East. O’Connor, award-winning journalist, filmmaker, and author of “Friends, Followers and the Future,” focuses his work on the intersection of media and politics.

Dr. Andalibian is a clinical psychologist who emphasizes the healing power of storytelling and the arts. In her forthcoming book, “The Rose Hotel,” she recalls her family’s struggle to survive the 1979 Iranian Revolution. In the midst of a world in which the threat of terrorism dominates much of our understanding and dialogue regarding the Middle East, Andalibian’s book offers an intimate view of an Iranian family that was dislocated and forced to adapt to a new home and culture, first in London and then in California.

The event will begin at 7pm. powerhouse is located at 37 Main Street in DUMBO.
