Tuesday at Book Court: A Secret History of Coffee, Coca & Cola

Brooklyn-based writer and illustrator Ricardo Cortés will appear at Book Court next week to celebrate the release of his new illustrated book A Secret History of Coffee, Coca & Cola.  You may remember Cortés’s debut, It’s Just a Plant: A Children’s Book about Marijuana, or his illustrations in the number one New York Times best-selling Go the Fuck to Sleep.  Now, the acclaimed illustrator depicts the history and intriguing intersection of Coca-Cola, caffeine, and cocaine. Beginning with cocaine factories in Peru and the coca leaf trade, the origins of the most popular soft drink in the world are entangled in some fascinating controversies.  For a chance to see how Cortés illuminates this sensory web, stop by Book Court this Tuesday, December 11.  Cortés will read from the book and will stick around for an audience Q&A and signing.

The event begins at 7pm. Book Court is located at 163 Court Street in Cobble Hill.
