Tonight, Jan. 16, Greenpoint’s WORD Bookstore presents Manuel Gonzales and the 1000 Word project. Gonzales’s debut collection of short stories, “The Miniature Wife: And Other Stories” has been praised for its seamless fusion of the familiar and the fantastical. The book includes 18 memorable stories that paint relate-able yet unique depictions of relationships.
Photographer Emily Raw and musician Ellia Bisker, co-conspirators of the 1000 Words project, will join Gonzales for a multimedia reading. As part of the project, Emily Raw, a Greenpoint-based photographer, shoots portraits that inspire Gonzales’s short stories.
Manuel Gonzales lives in Austin, Texas, with his family. A graduate of Columbia’s creative writing program, he has published fiction and nonfiction in Open City, Fence, One Story, Esquire, McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, and The Believer.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. WORD is located at 126 Franklin Street in Greenpoint.
