Millennials are often characterized as a spoiled, self-absorbed generation that can’t be bothered to look up from their screens to care about the rest of the world.
But in her book, Ok Boomer, Let’s Talk: How My Generation Got Left Behind, (on sale August 11), Jill Filipovic argues that Millennials are actually a generation in crisis – dealing with a host of issues that their Baby Boomer parents created.
Although Baby Boomers enjoy the title of being the most prosperous generation in American history, Millennials are the first generation that will actually do worse than their parents.
As Filipovic notes, Millennials are being forced to navigate an environment plagued by climate change, massive student loan debt, and rising healthcare costs. And COVID-19 has only exacerbated the problem, as the country faces record unemployment in the face of a global health crisis. Filipovic hopes the book will clear up misconceptions and create some understanding between two generations that could not be farther apart.
